Back Into The Deep Freeze This Weekend!
The first round of Arctic air has retreated but there will be another blast of cold air coming this weekend. It will put us right back in the deep freeze but it won’t last long. A significant January thaw is coming our way next week. .
In the meantime, a weaker system will move across the area tonight. It brings light rain with it. Temperatures will remain above the freezing mark, so there’s no wintry precipitation threat with this round. Rainfall amounts will be very light and we expect the showers to be out of the area early Friday morning. The area begins to dry out as gusty northwest winds kick in and transport the colder air into the state. Temps will go from the lower 40s Friday afternoon into the lower 20s by Saturday morning.
We experience more bitter cold temperatures over the upcoming weekend. The second round of Arctic air will only allow upper 30s for highs Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning starts out in the mid to upper teens but afternoon temps do recover into the lower to mid 40s. The sky will be mostly clear and that will take away any wintry precipitation threats for our area. This will be just as cold as the recent Arctic blast and precautions should be taken again. Maybe let the faucets drip and bring those pets in from the cold.
There’s a weather pattern change coming our way early next week. High pressure will set up to our east and we pick up a southeasterly winds flow. This wind direction will cut off the cold air and allow us to warm up a bit. We’re expecting mid 60s by Tuesday and lower 70s later in the week. Along with the warm up will come moisture and there’s a chance for showers heading into the middle of next week. A series of rain makers will move through the area . We will go from the heavy winter coats to light rain jackets in a matter of a few days.
The January thaw is coming and it’s going to be significant! We just have to hang in there for a few more days.
