Town shuts off water to Pine Hill woman’s home over .26 cents

From the West Alabama Newsroom–

A Pine Hill woman is irked and upset after her water is turned off — after paying all but .26 cents of her water bill.

Sarah Pugh says the town of Pine Hill — doesn’t care about the people who live there. Its the conclusion she’s come to — after the town shut off her water — over a meager .26 cents.

Wal Phwaterwoes0201 Pkg“They cut me off for .26 cents. A quarter and a penny. It’s not right. And it’s done happened to more than just me up here,” said Pugh.

A fact confirmed by one of the clerks at the town hall. The clerk did not want to speak with Action 8 News on camera. But did provide a copy of the policy — workers use regarding water bills.

It reads in part– All bills must be paid in full by the 10th of the month. A service charge will be added on the 11th. Then the service will be disconnected — if the bill is not paid by the 24th.

Pugh had paid $72 dollars on the 1st — but the bill was $72 dollars and 26 cents. She says she found the disconnection notice in her mailbox — after her water was cut off — making her a day late — and less than a dollar short.

“They spent more on postage than my bill was. I don’t see why I should of got cut off over .26 cents. I just think that’s ridiculous.”

On top of that — Pugh had to pay $75 dollars reconnection fee — to have her water turned back on.

The Pine Hill town council makes — and approves — water department policy.
