The Alabama State Hornets get set for their 2024 softball season and head coach Todd Bradley explains that he and the rest of his team feel as though the have some unfinished business to take care of from last season. The Hornets finished up the 2023 season with a 30-21 overall record, a 17-7 record in SWAC play, and went 1-2 in the SWAC tournament.
“The thing about here at Alabama State, I think the bullseyes is usually on our backs. I think most of the people in our conference think and feel like the titles goes through Alabama State and we believe that’s true. We just know that we have unfinished business. We’ve got quite a few seniors and quite a few upperclassmen that are hungry to get back out and prove that we need to get back to where we were,” says Bradley.
The Hornets bring back several members of last year’s team including the two-time SWAC preseason player of the year outfielder Kindall DeRamus who returns for her Covid year. Coach Bradley says that in addition to having DeRamus back, he is also very excited about this year’s pitching staff.
“The two juniors that are returning (Ashley Pye & Olivia Brown) they’ve had a lot of opportunities to play and opportunities to learn from maybe mistakes but then have some success. We’ve got junior college player that has transferred in and she has had a lot of experience for two years at the junior college, at a high level. And then we’ve got two freshmen and I just think that they mesh and they mold, they support each other very well and they’re going to be able to compliment each other because they’re all so different,” says Bradley.
The Hornets kick off the 2024 season on Friday February 9th at home against Hampton.
