After serving as a defensive line analyst over the past season at Auburn, Hugh Freeze names Vontrell King-Williams the defensive tackles coach of the Tigers. King-Williams also served alongside Freeze at Liberty.

Within Auburn’s defensive staff, numerous position assignments have been made. Defensive Coordinator DJ Durkin will oversee the linebackers, Co-Defensive Coordinator Charles Kelly will oversee the safeties, Wesley McGriff will coach the cornerbacks, and Josh Aldridge will coach the defensive edge unit.

“I’m super grateful for the opportunity given to me by Coach Freeze and Coach Durkin,” King-Williams said. “I believe in what we are building here at Auburn and can’t wait to continue to positively impact the lives of our student-athletes. War Eagle!”

During the 2023 season at Auburn King-Williams assisted with the defensive line unit. Before coming to Auburn King-Williams was the defensive tackles coach at Eastern Michigan University for  a season after serving as a defensive graduate assistant at Liberty for two seasons.

“Vontrell is an incredibly hard worker, passionate about his craft, and earned the respect of his players during his time with me at Auburn and Liberty,” Freeze said. “He has a tremendous upside and reminds me of the likes of Jeremy Garrett, Tray Scott and Freddie Roach, who have all worked for me early in their careers.”

King-Williams got his start in coaching at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) as a defensive line intern after playing there in 2015-16.
