Southern Homes & Gardens will close after 45 years this spring, with its property taking on a new mission.

The landmark business on Vaughn Road has been a showcase of furniture, decor, plants and landscaping materials.

It will now become part of the campus of Christchurch Anglican, which is next door.

“Now operating as a third generation, family-run business, we have made the decision to focus on the strongest areas of our business, manufacturing in Asia, wholesale live plants and real estate,” CEO Lamar Thompson said.

The store will close on March 31.

Rev. Andrew Rowell, the Rector of Christchurch Anglican, is exited for the opportunity the new property will bring.

“We are thankful for the many Christchurch members whose generosity made this possible,” Rowell said.

“Now we pray that God will direct us as we plan our new Children and Youth Campus, and dream about a greatly expanded preschool in the near future,” he said.

The Thompson family said it wants to thank of all of the store’s employees as well as the community for its support.

Southern Homes & Gardens opened on Wetumpka Highway in 1979 before moving to Vaughn Road in 2005.

The company’s Capitol’s Rosemont Gardens and Caffco Floral Outlet will remain open.
