$6 million in grants presented to local child abuse and neglect prevention agencies

Grants totaling $6 million have been presented to local child abuse and neglect prevention organizations.

The money will go to 63 organizations and 97 programs in Alabama’s 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Congressional Districts.

The Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention has awarded 202 grants for efforts such as parent education, home visiting and community awareness.

“The more money we have to grant out, the more programs we have to fund. With the additional funding, we could move into the areas of the state that we consider underserved. That maybe have a lack of some of the resources, some of the more rural areas. We’re hoping and have a plan to do that,” Sallye Longshore, the director of the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention told Action 8 News.
