Man arrested in death of wife in Opelika

Opelika police say a man has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife.

Police say 54-year-old Spencer Tracy Bell has been charged with elder abuse and neglect as well as domestic violence. They say more charges are pending.

Police say they got a rescue call on February 6 concerning a 68-year-old woman who was unresponsive at a location in the 2600 block of Frederick Road. She was taken to East Alabama Medical Center, but died two days later.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results.
