Former Wetumpka firefighter sentenced to 30 years in prison

A former Wetumpka firefighter has been sentenced to three decades behind bars following his guilty plea to child sex-related charges.

Elmore County Circuit Judge Joy Pace Booth sentenced John Cole Carter to 30 years in prison during a hearing this morning.

In January, Carter entered guilty pleas to transmitting obscene material, possession of child pornography, second-degree sex abuse, electronic solicitation of a child and enticing a child for immoral purposes.

Wetumpka Police Chief Greg Benton told Action 8 News last year that the child’s father filed a complaint with the police department, which ultimately led to Carter’s arrest.

Carter will receive credit for his time served, which is 133 days.
