What’s Happening: March 1-3
The Bridge Crossing Jubilee in Selma is this weekend’s biggest event, but there are also other things to do across the River Region!
The Bridge Crossing Jubilee has a long list of events, which are already underway. It commemorates the 1965 Bloody Sunday voting rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, which ended when law enforcement officers attacked marchers after they crossed the bridge. A successful march to the Alabama Capitol in Montgomery was held later that month.
This year’s jubilee marks the 59th anniversary of those events. Vice President Kamala Harris will be returning to Selma. She last attended in 2022, with President Biden taking part last year.
Elsewhere, Montgomery Public Schools will be hosting a Family and Community Fun Day with free food, learning stations, bounce houses and more.
The Santuck flea market is back with a huge variety of vendors.
And you can hear the sounds of bluegrass at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
