Man charged with shooting at Montgomery police
A Montgomery man has been charged with attempted murder after being accused of shooting at police officers during a chase.
According to court records, 37-year-old Lorenzo Anterrio Monta is accused of firing several shots at officers from the passenger window of a car yesterday at around 6:35PM, which was caught on police dashcam video.
Records show Monta was a passenger in a stolen car that was involved in a chase.
Montgomery Police Maj. Saba Coleman told Action 8 News that officers had tried to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Atlanta Highway and Eastdale Road South on the stolen vehicle. Coleman said the driver refused to stop, which is how the pursuit started.
Coleman said there were no injuries or reports of property damage in the chase or from the gunshots.
The shots were fired around Lagoon Park Drive.
The chase ended at Glade Park Drive and Hilda Drive, where Monta and the driver bailed out of the car. Records show Monta was arrested after a short foot pursuit, and officers found a stolen gun in his right pocket.
The driver made a successful getaway from police, according to Coleman.
Officers recovered shell casings at Lagoon Park Drive. The shell casings along with the gun were turned over to the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) which were tested. Records show the shell casings recovered matched the gun recovered in Monta’s pocket.
Monta faces three counts of attempted murder and one count of receiving stolen property. The total bond amount for all charges is $195,000.
