Montgomery Whitewater hosts U.S. Open Whitewater Championships

It was a busy Saturday out at Montgomery Whitewater as they hosted the U.S. Open Whitewater Championships. People from the across the United States, Canada, and Spain came to compete in kayaking and canoeing events. Participants included those who are casual racers, as well as the country’s top whitewater athletes, including Olympians and National Team members.

The facility is the newest and most advanced of only three Olympic-caliber pumped whitewater courses in America. And the park is capable of hosting the highest-level international events as well as offering recreational kayaking, canoeing, rafting and instruction. David Hepp, CEO of Montgomery Whitewater said, “We’re super excited to do this every spring and every fall. Once we get past the Olympic trials we will probably make a tradition out of it with a couple of spring races here, a couple of fall races. It really means a lot to us being a brand new facility – to start landing some of these regional and national events is a big deal. We’re so excited to have this facility here to introduce people to whitewater and flatwater kayaking, and mountain biking and climbing, and all those sports to the community.” After the competition, the popular group “Rollin’ in the Hay” played live music.
