ACTION 8 UPDATE: Montgomery police have charged a third suspect in a homicide case from January.

Police say they’ve charged 18-year-old Jerel Brown of Montgomery with felony murder.

He is the third person charged in the January 25 shooting death of a 16-year-old Michael Cole, Jr., who was from Montgomery.

As Action 8 News has reported, police have previously arrested and charged 18-year-old Nedvin Jones, Jr. and 18-year-old Nicholas Sheppard with Cole’s murder.

Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert told Action 8 News that there are indications that all parties involved knew each other.

According to court documents, Jones and Sheppard “did commit or attempted to commit a crime by discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling” in the Ridgecrest area on January 25.

Once an investigator arrived, they found bullet damage to the home. Officials say that’s the same night Cole was reported missing. He was a student at Sidney Lanier High School.

Cole’s body was found January 29 in the 6500 block of Selma Highway. That location is near the Montgomery Regional Airport.

Police say Brown was taken into custody today by officers and U.S. Marshals and placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility under no bond.
