The city of Selma is recognized for its economic development success in 2023.
Selma ranks among the Top 40 Micropolitan in the country for corporate expansion projects in Site Selection magazine.
The Top 40 recognition has area leaders excited about what the ranking says about Selma.
The three projects that lead to the ranking represents about $70 million dollars in investments — and about 150 new jobs.
“It really makes a difference. It’s really an economic boost to Dallas County,” said Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn.
“If you look at the indices far as how we’re doing as far as commerce, it’s good. Very good,” said EDA Executive Director Wayne Vardaman.
Site Selection magazine is a trusted resource for project expansion planners — providing location intelligence — and insights into projects. And officials are hopeful that recognition by the magazine — will trigger even more growth.
“Despite all of the focus on the things that we still have yet to do, there are great things happening in our community,” said Selma Mayor James Perkins, Jr.
“A rising tide, floats all boats,” said Aubrey Carter.
“You can really see a movement happening in Selma and Dallas County.”
“We’re not saying the works done. A lotta works still to do,” said Vardaman.
“We gotta build off of successes. That’s what we’re trying to do with this. We want to build off of these successes.”
Selma was one of only three Alabama cities — included in the magazine’s Top 40 rankings.
