River Region Animal Rescue caring for abused puppy with severe chemical burns
A local animal rescue organization is caring for a puppy who they say was likely doused in gasoline and almost starved to death. A kind lady from Enterprise reached out to River Region Animal Rescue about a puppy that she had rescued. The male puppy been abused and had what she thought was mange. Volunteers brought the puppy – who they named Ed – to a vet clinic in Montgomery. They discovered that he had severe chemical burns on most of his body from a toxic liquid that they believe was put on his fur and skin. He was also anemic, had parasites, and was covered in fleas. River Region Animal Rescue is working with law enforcement and they say they will not stop until the person who did this is held accountable. River Region Animal Rescue Coordinator Shawna Eakin says he is a brave little fighter. “He tried to wag his tail and he was so weak and it was like the most pathetic wag I’ve ever seen in my life, but it broke my heart so much. This poor dog has been through hell. Somebody did this to him intentionally, and he’s still looking up at a stranger and perking his poor little naked head up and wagging his poor little naked tail. So, he’s strong.”
Ed is in the ICU at a local vet clinic, and they estimate his recovery will take months. He will be put up for adoption once he is healthy. If you would like to donate towards his care, go to http://www.paypal.me/RiverRegionAnimal .
