Huge crowds gasped as the Blue Angels and other airplanes took to the skies over Montgomery

If you made it out to Maxwell Air Force Base today, you were in for a treat! Day one of the Beyond the Horizon Air Show took to the skies. Thousands of people were at Maxwell to enjoy the show.

One attendee said, “Its been great its been really exciting, a lot of cool acrobatics, their really excited about the blue angles, but yeah, and the parachuting was really cool.”

People came from surrounding states to see the Navy’s Blue Angles and their acrobatic flying stunts. Martha Watts traveled all the way from Georgia to see the blue angles. She says she has waited thirty years to see the Blue Angels, and it was on her bucket list.

“My husband saw that they were going to be here so we just took off and headed this way, and I just think its amazing how close they can fly together. The team work that they display, its something for all of us to strive for in our own lives.”

Action 8 News spoke with an F-16 pilot who performed at the air show. He says the Montgomery crowd was nothing short of amazing. “Man this has been awesome. I’ve only been on probably 4 or 5 shows but this crowd is insane, its awesome. Great energy all day today.”

Another aviation enthusiast commented,  “I have never had the opportunity to see the Blue Angels so I am certainly looking forward to that and its also great seeing some of the other aircraft like the P51 Red-tails and so forth and the story of Tuskegee.” Organizers estimate that about 150,000 people will visit the airshow over the weekend. The air show continues Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
