Mayors of Montgomery, Selma hold anti-crime summit
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and Selma Mayor James Perkins, Jr., are coming together to host a summit to fight violent crime in their cities.
Together, they are presenting the Montgomery/Selma Community Violence Intervention Summit in downtown Montgomery. The two-day summit is aimed to bring together community leaders, activists and others to learn more about the sources of gun crimes and what can be done to curb violence.
“Violence is something that not only impacts our community, it impacts our entire country,” Reed told Action 8 News. “So we’re trying to bring the best and the brightest around to help us present solutions.”
“Some possible solutions that will be feasible, that could be proposed at the federal and state levels to address some of this illegal guns that we’re seeing in our communities,” Perkins said.
The second day of the summit will begin at 8AM Saturday at Embassy Suites in downtown Montgomery.
