ACTION 8 UPDATE: The family of a woman shot on Atlanta Highway in Montgomery on Friday has released a statement on her medical condition.

The family of Amy Dicks sent this statement to Action 8 News:

“Amy is in the process of recovery and we are anxiously awaiting for her to be medically stable enough to transfer to an impatient medical facility to begin her long journey of a very comprehensive recovery.

“Amy is paralyzed from the chest down and this will impact her and her family mentally, physically, and financially for the remainder of their lives.

“At this time, efforts are being made by the authorities to confirm leads. We are asking the public to come forward with any information that could be helpful.”

As Action 8 News reported Friday, the shooting happened at around 1PM in the 5500 block of Atlanta Highway, near the intersection of Eastern Boulevard. Montgomery police told Action 8 News that the victim in the shooting was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Action 8 News spoke to an eyewitness who did not want to be identified, but says his truck was struck by a bullet in the back. The eyewitness tells us he was stopped at the traffic light in front of Eastdale Mall near Red Lobster on the Atlanta Highway when he heard something hit his car. He then says he saw two vehicles speeding away in opposite directions.

He says a man in a car in front of him jumped out of his car and yelled that he thought a person – who was also stopped at the light – had been hit.
