Woman killed after being hit in the head by a dumbbell

Montgomery police say a woman has died from blunt force trauma over the weekend.

Capt. Raymond Carson tells Action 8 News that the incident happened just after midnight on Sunday in the 600 block of Community Street.

Officers and Fire Medics initially received a report of a general medical call. Fire Medics later pronounced 37-year-old Summer Blackmon dead on the scene.

MPD says it initially opened up a death investigation, but later determined the death to be a homicide.

Police have charged 41-year-old Derrick Wilson, of Montgomery, with one count of murder.

According to court documents obtained by Action 8 News, Blackmon died after being struck in the head by a dumbbell.

Wilson is currently in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
