CAMPAIGN 2024: Caroleene Dobson has won the Republican runoff for U.S. House District 2.

Dobson, a Montgomery attorney, beat Dick Brewbaker, a former state lawmaker and Montgomery car dealer.

With 99% of precincts reporting late Tuesday night, here are the results:

Caroleene Dobson: 14,688 votes – 58%
Dick Brewbaker: 10,454 votes – 42%

She will face Democratic nominee Shomari Figures, who is the son of the late State Sen. Michael Figures and current State Sen. Vivian Figures, of Mobile. He served in the White House under President Obama and for current U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Figures defeated Anthony Daniels of Huntsville in the Democratic runoff, who is the Alabama House Minority Leader.

The general election is November 5.

District 2 was redrawn last year under court order to give Black Alabamians a greater chance at representation. Alabama has seven seats in the U.S. House, but only one Black member of Congress.
