Montgomery citizens speak out against gun violence
Montgomery experienced several daytime shootings over the weekend, one which left an innocent bystander paralyzed from the chest down.
Amy Dicks was shot while sitting in her vehicle at an intersection on Atlanta Highway, an act that both hits close to home for some Montgomerians and serves as the final straw for citizens who are tired of witnessing gun violence across the city.
“She heard many gun shots,” said Amy’s mother, Freida Owens. “She wondered what was happening. She slid down in her seat until she did not hear any other gunshots. She sat up and POW, she was hit.”
Amy was shot once with the bullet going through her left shoulder, her rib, her lung, and landed in her spine.
Montgomery citizens gathered at city hall to make their growing concerns known to Mayor Reed and the Montgomery City Council. Outcries and demands ring out– asking Mayor Reed and city council members to take action that will protect the peace previously known in this city.
Many citizens also voiced their belief that the rise in crime is in correlation with a lack of police presence and ask that the city invest more in law enforcement.
