Alabama State golf head coach Heard, was named co-SWAC Coach of the Year. He says the team accomplishment stands out to him, though.

“It’s the end result of a lot of hard work,” Heard said, “and a lot of time and sacrifice on the part of the student-athletes, staff, and university.”

Heard graduated from J.A.G High School. Now he says he feels eager to build up the diverse ASU golf program.

“To be in my hometown and to bring a championship here; it’s just the first step of my vision for the program, which is to bring national attention to us and continue to attract very strong young men and women from around the globe who want an opportunity to pursue their dreams,” Heard said, “with a program that rivals any in the country.”

In order to accomplish this goal, Alabama State is building an indoor golf facility. Heard says it will be state-of-the-art for an HBCU, complete with putting greens, simulations, locker rooms, a coaches’ lounge, kitchen, and study rooms.

Construction should wrap up this summer.
