It’s National Crime Victim’s Rights Week — and the 4th Judicial Circuit is commemorating victims all this week.
Wilcox County District Attorney Robert Turner, Jr. is hosting ceremonies in each of the five counties in the 4th Judicial Circuit — commemorating crime victims and survivors.
Crime is a national issue.
It’s a problem in big cities — and small towns alike. And many times crime victims and crime survivors– feel like they’ve been forgotten as the wheels of justice slowly turn.
“Crime victims are not forgotten about, not on the national level, not on the state level and not on the county level,” said Turner.
Turner, Jr. hosted a ceremony Wednesday afternoon in Camden — to acknowledge crime victims and survivors in Wilcox County.
One by one survivors stood up — and spoke the name of loved ones they lost in violent crimes.
“Everyday, every week that goes by we remember our loved one. We miss them, weekly, daily,” said Jannetta Fore-Mack.
Fore-Mack says her nephew was murdered two years ago when a man shot him several times and stole his car.
“For us it was difficult. It was tremendously difficult for my sister, as well as his father,” she said.
The ceremony also served as a way to encourage victims to take advantage of the resources available to the victim’s of crime.
“There are victims of property crime. There are victims of people who have had their identity stolen, there are people who were assaulted. We are here embracing this week all victims,” said Turner.
