The 13th Annual Special Needs Fun Day — may have been the biggest fun day yet.

The event has always brought the community out in support of children with special needs — but now they also participate to honor the man who created the event — former Selma Mayor George Evans.

“We knew that this would be the best way to remember his legacy,” said Patrick Evans.

Fun Day featured music — dancing — food — drinks — and cheer squads — from area schools.

“It brings joy to my heart to see the children having fun,” said Jeannie Evans. “And that’s what he was all about.”

Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn has a daughter with special needs. He says it takes a special parent — to care for a child with special needs.

The Evans Special Needs Foundation also plans to hold it’s annual golf tournament fund-raiser — in October.

“We’re just trying to continue the legacy and the leadership that he provided, and the blueprint, the road map that he provided for us to be able to be impactful in this community,” said Patrick Evans.

Proceeds from the golf tournament help pay for the Fun Day event.

It also helps benefit Cahaba Mental Health — Selma City — and Dallas County Schools.

The foundation donated $5000 dollars to each of them last year.
