A historic ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday on the campus of Marion Military Institute.

Governor Kay Ivey and other dignitaries were on hand to show off the new dining hall.

Officials say this is the first new construction on campus in more than 30 years.

The nearly $13 million project features up to 500 seats in the dining room, is handicap accessible and features energy efficient building systems and a covered porch with outdoor seating.

Student began using the new facility in Spring 2024.

A member of the Alabama Community College System, MMI is the oldest military junior college in the nation and educates students from more than 40 U.S. states and territories.
