Fallen officers remembered at Alabama Capitol ceremony

The Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police held a ceremony outside the Alabama Capitol in remembrance of fallen officers on Friday morning.

Attorney General Steve Marshall was the keynote speaker at the annual memorial service.

Three officers were honored, Garrett Crumby with the Huntsville Police Department, Kimberly Sickafoose with the Alabama Port Authority and Carlos Taylor with the Montgomery Police Department. Family representing each of the officers placed a carnation on the Fraternal Order of Police’s fallen officer star.

“We stand here with you today to pray for peace that only our creator can provide you and help you find the hope to overcome your loss,” Everette Johnson, the president of the Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police, said.

“Last spring, I was pleased to sign legislation enshrining this day into Alabama law, building upon the noble tradition of more than 40 years of such memorial services conducted here on the Capitol grounds by the Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police,” Gov. Kay Ivey said.

“Men and women in law enforcement are dedicated to the mission to protect and serve. They are highly trained to do their jobs and every day, law enforcement puts on that uniform to save lives by allowing us to live in safe communities,” Attorney General Steve Marshall said.

The Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police was established in 1947.
