One person has been killed and another seriously injured in a house fire in Montgomery early Tuesday morning.

Montgomery Fire/Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Stanley Cooper said the fire was reported at about 5:16AM in the 600 block of Bullock Street, which is just off Rosa Parks Avenue.

Cooper said firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the single-story home. He says a bystander told them there could be two people inside.

Rescuers found the two people. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital in serious condition, according to Cooper.

The cause of the fire isn’t yet known.
