Strong To Severe Storms Likely Tonight Into Friday Morning!

A strong cold front is heading towards the deep south and it’s going to bring more rain and storms along with it. The weather behind the frontal boundary will be pleasant and that will set us up for a really nice weekend. We just have to get over this one big hurdle first. It’s been a while since we’ve had a real storm threat so we encourage you to stay weather aware tonight into early Friday morning.

The strong to severe storm threat is likely this evening and overnight.  It will come in two rounds. The first will move through the area between 7pm and 10pm. The main threats with this round will be damaging winds up to 70 mph, large hail, and a tornado can’t be ruled out.
We expect a break in the storm activity for a few hours before the next round begins in west Alabama. The second round of storms will move into west Alabama around 2am Friday and advance eastward. These storms will be capable of producing damaging winds up to 70 mph, large, and possibly a tornado or two.

The storms move out of the area and we begin to see improving weather conditions late Friday morning. We expect decreasing clouds along with dry/cooler air spilling into the region. High pressure returns and it’s setting up to be really nice weather conditions for Mother’s Day weekend. A mostly sunny sky will prevail along with milder temperatures. Daytime highs will only manage the upper 70s to lower 80s while overnight lows fall into the lower to mid 50s.
