Auburn police arrest two on gambling-related charges
Auburn police have arrested two people on gambling-related charges.
Officials say on May 14, 30-year-old Rifat Hassan, of Auburn, was charged with conspiracy to promote gambling and possession of a gambling device.
The arrests stems from an investigation that started involving an illegal gambling operation at a business in the 2400 block of East Glenn Avenue. On May 8, Auburn Police detectives executed a search warrant at the business.
During the search, multiple gambling machines were recovered.
Police say 62-year-old Robert Levett, also of Auburn, was the sole employee operating the business at the time of the search warrant. Levett was arrested and charged with conspiracy to promote gambling.
During the investigation, currency was seized from the gambling machines, and detectives recovered evidence showing that the machines were used to yield illegal profits. Hassan was identified as the business owner and beneficiary of the proceeds generated from the gambling operation.
Hassan was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $600 bond.
