Heavy Rain Along With Strong To Severe Storms Today
A soaking rain and storm event is underway across our area! Several rounds of rain and storms will be passing through here. Strong to severe storms will be possible this time around as well. Rainfall could be significant in some areas Friday through Saturday. Everyone will need to be weather aware.
Rain and storms will continue to advance slowly through central Alabama today. The heaviest rain is moving along and just south of the 80/85 corridor. Flash flooding is likely as some spots have already picked up 1 to 3 inches of rainfall. Additional rainfall is likely and that could lead to flooding in those flood prone areas. Remember to never cross flooded roadways! The saying goes “turn around don’t drown”. There is still a severe storm risk during the afternoon and evening hours. Our southern counties will have the greater risk of the severe storms. The main threats will be damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes. There will be several other rounds of rain moving through late Friday night and into Saturday evening.
The latter half of the weekend into early next week is looking a lot better weatherwise. Sunny and dry conditions return along with much warmer air. Temps will be climbing into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees for highs and overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s.
