Two neighboring Montgomery businesses targeted by suspected criminals
Montgomery police are investigating incidents at two neighboring businesses that were recently targeted by suspected criminals.
Major Saba Coleman says officers were called Monday morning to the 1700 block of Carter Hill Road after receiving a call regarding a burglary.
Jason Baker, owner of Baker’s Framing & Art Supplies, tells Action 8 News that his business was hit by burglars around midnight Sunday.
Baker said the suspected thieves busted out a window and broke into the register, taking the cash drawer and bank bag.
“It’s extremely sad and frustrating to see how far our city has declined over the last several years,” said Baker. “The current lawlessness only gives entitlement to these criminals. Something has got to change! I love Montgomery and still believe it can be great, but also understand that we have a long way to go.”
Baker said this is the second time his business has been hit in less than a year and a half.

Next door to Baker’s business, The Locker Room, was also hit by suspected criminals.
Major Coleman said officers responded to the area just after 9:00 p.m. Thursday in response to criminal mischief.
When police arrived, they found broken glass in front of the building.
John Lee, with The Locker Room, tells Action 8 News that no one was at the business at the time of the incident.
“We had someone throw a brick through our front window last night,” said Lee. “[They] did not get in the building, but obviously, it caused a lot of damage. It’s something that’s been on the increase in our city and in our area. It’s happening next door, happening at the Five Points Deli, and it’s happening at Midtown Pizza. The list just goes on and on multiple times to small businesses in our city.”
No word on any suspects at this time.
