A suspect has been arrested in a shooting that paralyzed a woman.

Montgomery police have arrested 20-year-old Michael Lamar Johnson and charged him in the shooting that occurred on April 12.

The shooting happened in the 5500 block of Atlanta Highway, near the intersection of Eastern Boulevard.

Montgomery police told Action 8 News that the victim in the shooting, now identified as Amy Dicks, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The family released a statement a few days later stating that Dicks was paralyzed from the chest down.

Dicks is still recovering from her injuries in the spinal cord recovery unit at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.

According to court records obtained by Action 8 News, at approximately 1:08 p.m. that day, “Johnson and/or an accomplice did engage in conduct that created a grave risk of death to another person and thereby caused serious physical injury to Dicks by discharging firearms into an intersection while shooting at a fleeing vehicle resulting in a projectile striking the Dicks’ vehicle.” The documents also say another vehicle was hit by gunfire, the occupant of the vehicle was not injured.

Johnson is charged with two counts of Discharging a Gun into an Occupied Building/Vehicle and 1st Degree Assault.

Capt. Saba Coleman told Action 8 News that Johnson was taken into custody by the Pelham Police Department on May 19, then later transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

According to court records, Johnson did not have any prior criminal offenses as an adult in the state of Alabama.

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers says investigators credit information provided by an anonymous tipster with providing crucial information that was essential to solving the case. The anonymous tipper will receive an immediate portion of the $15,000 cash reward, then the rest will be paid upon conviction.
