One woman is dead and another injured in a Sunday afternoon shooting in Montgomery

One woman is dead and another is injured after a shooting near downtown Montgomery on Sunday, the Montgomery Police Department has confirmed to Action 8 News.

Police department spokesperson Sgt. Ernestina McGriff said it happened at about 3:45 p.m. this afternoon.

MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 900 block of S. Union Street, which is near Interstate 85 and found a woman who suffered non-life threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. Officers also located an additional woman who suffered life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. Both victims were taken to a hospital for treatment, but one of the women died of her injuries, Sgt. McGriff said.

The victims’ names haven’t been released.

MPD tells Action 8 News that this is an ongoing investigation. They have not said if any suspects have been identified.
