Grant puts new roofs on 40 houses in East Selma community

From the West Alabama Newsroom–

Forty homes in Selma are getting brand new roofs put on them — to make them safer — and more wind resistant — during severe weather.

Wal Selmaroof0530 PkgAll of the houses that will get new roofs — are located in the East Selma community of Ward 8.

The project is part of a larger effort — to help revitalize one of the underserved areas of the city.

“That’s really helping a lot of people in Ward 8. I’m so grateful for that,” said Councilman Michael Johnson.

“Each home that was chosen definitely needed the work to be done to their house.”

Strengthen-Alabama-Homes funded the project through a $400,000 dollar grant.

The roofing work is being done by Harzo, Incorporated.
