Prattville breaks ground on new public safety training facility

The city of Prattville has broken ground for a new public safety training facility.

The facility will be in West Industrial Park. It will house training units for both the fire and police departments.

Officials say the facility is another step toward keeping first responder training at a high level to ensure the safety of residents in the entire River Region.

I had a ledger, a legal pad when I started the fire chief job 12 years ago,” Prattville Fire Chief Terry Brown said. “This was the last thing to highlight off of it, and I’ll end this career in August knowing that that’s been done. This will enhance our training for firefighters here in Prattville, and we’re a regional training facility for the Alabama Fire College and this will enhance more classes to come here,” he said.

“This absolutely represents economic development because when you have a city that is safe and when you have a great ISO fire rating, what you get is economic development. People want to have a business in a place that is safe,” Prattville City Council President Lora Lee Boone said.

Construction is expected to take about 10 months.
