Man arrested in Lee County pistol-whipping case
A Lee County man has been arrested on charges that he pistol-whipped a family member.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Jamey Scott Dillard of Smiths Station has been charged with first-degree assault. He is being held on $50,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office got a 911 call at about 12:19 this morning from someone reporting gunshots and an unresponsive male in the 15000 block of U.S. Highway 280 in Smiths Station.
Deputies found a 40-year-old unconscious man who was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia, where he is in critical condition.
The sheriff’s office says witnesses told them that Dillard is the victim’s uncle by marriage. They said the two were in an argument when the victim was pistol-whipped until losing consciousness.
