Benjamin Russell and Coosa Central host 5th annual Almuni Game
Benjamin Russell High School and Coosa Central High School host their 5th annual Alumni Game. Several alums from both schools who have gone on to play professionally in the NFL and NBA were there participating. Some of those alums include Terrell Owens (former NFL wide receiver), Adalius Thomas (former NFL linebacker), Scottie Vines (former NFL wide receiver), Justin Tuck (former NFL defensive end), Xavier Moon (LA Clippers), and Jamario Moon (former NBA player.)
For these current and former pro’s it is a chance for them to give back to the communities that gave so much to them and helped shape them into who they are today. In addition to giving back, they also feel it’s an opportunity to show the youth in their hometowns that with hard work and dedication, they too can achieve greatness.
“I think this is a big impact on the kids that we have now and even kids that are my age. So, I’m happy that I can be here to do this every year and hopefully we can just keep it going in the future,” says Xavier Moon.
“A lot of people you know tend to think when you come from a small place you can’t get out. You know it’s kind of like I’m stuck to whatever my environment provides, but you know when I made it I always wanted to be able to come back and show the kids not only in Goodwater, but Alex City, Sylacauga, and all the surrounding areas that, listen if you work hard and you put your mind to it you can reach whatever dream you’ve got and it don’t even have to be basketball it’s sports period,” says Jamario Moon.
Both Xavier and Jamario are Central Alumni.
