Selma City Schools making summer time improvements
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
There’s a lot going on at Selma City Schools since the end of the school year.
Most of it is focused on making improvements around the district — for the upcoming school year.
The school district is offering summer camp learning opportunities — for students from Pre-k to 12th grade — during the month of June.
The district has also established a new School Resource Officer program.
Two new School Resource Officers have been hired. And the district hopes to hire a third.
“Our resource officers will actually serve dual roles. They will work for Selma Police Department as well as Selma City Schools,” said SCS Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd.
“This is going to help to foster and bridge the gap between law enforcement and the youth in our community.”
Byrd says the district will also have five new electric school buses when the new school year starts — thanks to a $1.7 million dollar grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.
