Auburn announces SEC/ACC Challenge matchups
Auburn Basketball
The matchups for Auburn’s men’s and women’s basketball team’s set for the SEC/ACC Challenge this December. The men’s team will face Duke and the women will face Virginia. Both the men’s and women’s team will be on the road for their games.
The last time that the Tigers faced Duke was back in 2018 at the Maui Invitational. The Blue Devils lead the series overall 4-0 which dates back to 1964.
“It’s hard to put in perspective exactly what this opportunity means for our Auburn Basketball program,” head coach Bruce Pearl said. “To be selected by ESPN and our conference, to compete against one of the greatest programs in the history of college basketball, is tremendous recognition for where our program is at right now. It’s also a tremendous responsibility.
“I can no longer play the, ‘we don’t get any respect card,’ which I think we’ve earned by winning four conference championships over the last seven years. Personally, coaching in Cameron Indoor Stadium against head coach Jon Scheyer and the Duke Basketball program will be extremely meaningful to me. I know that it will be the same for our players and coaching staff.”
This is the second year of the SEC/ACC Challenge. Last year Auburn took down Virginia Tech, 74-57, at Neville Arena.
The women’s team set to take on the Virginia Cavaliers in the SEC/ACC Challenge.
Last year the women’s team hosted Clemson and took down the Tigers 83-53 at Neville Arena. That was the largest margin of victory by any team, men’s or women’s, in the event. Auburn’s win over Clemson helped secure 7-7 tie between the two conferences in the 14-team event.
This meeting between the Tigers and the Cavaliers will be the 7th all time in women’s basketball. Virginia leads the series 1-5. The last meeting between the two programs was back in 2015.
The men’s game will take place on December 4th in Durham, North Carolina while the women’s game will take place the next day on December 5th in Charlottesville, Virginia.
