Behind the Biscuits: Bob Seymour

Behind the Biscuits

Baseball has been a part of Bob Seymore’s story since his childhood when he first began playing ball in his backyard with his sisters.

“I probably started playing baseball around four or five. You know I actually started with my sisters you know, both of them would play softball at a young age. My sister played college softball so learned a lot from her,” says Seymour.

Seymour later grew up and played baseball at the division I level at Wake Forest where he played for the Demon Deacons from 2018-2021.

“Wake they really just taught us how to be better people in general too so, we learned a lot about baseball, we learned a lot about analytics, but just at the end of the day it’s just to be a better person and the best man that you can be,” says Seymour.

Seymour admits he has always dreamed of playing professional baseball and it was in 2021 that his childhood dream became a reality when the Tampa Bay Rays selected Seymour in the 13th round as the 401st overall pick.

“They gave me a call a couple rounds before they picked me you know kind of checking in, some other teams were doing it and the Rays took me and it’s been a blessing ever since and I couldn’t be happier with this organization,” says Seymour.

And since he was drafted back in 2021 Seymour has spent time in the Rays Rookie Ball League in Port Charlotte, Florida and also with the Charleston RiverDogs (single-A), the Bowling Green Hot Rods (high-A), and with Montgomery (double-A.)

Seymour explains that the hardest challenge that he has had to overcome while playing baseball is battling the mental side of the game.

“I think the biggest challenge I think you’ll probably get this a lot just talking to us it’s definitely the mental side of baseball for sure. You know it’s just doing a lot of the same stuff everyday, you know you’re coming out here, but I think the biggest thing is to keep a positive mindset you know and you just take each day you know one day at a time you’re going to be in a better spot than if you’re constantly thinking about the night before or all your at bats so at the end of the day just control what you can control and just do what you do,” says Seymour.

One thing that Seymour says that most fans might not know about the minor league system is that there’s a lot of great baseball being played in these games.

“I would say honestly with just kind of the overall grind you know, I mean I think people have an idea but I mean I don’t think they’re like oh you know it’s minor leaguers you know it’s still professional baseball, it’s great baseball, you know and we might not play as many games, but this is just great baseball we play day in and day out, so I think if more people would kind of pay attention to it they would see this is really good baseball,” says Seymour.
