24-hour event helps ham radio operators prepare for emergencies

The Montgomery Area Radio Club is having its annual field day this weekend.

The 24-hour event helps bring awareness in case of an emergency.

MARC’s Field Day brings together many of the club’s 125 members to practice making contacts in worst case scenarios.

During the event, they use a variety of radios and antennas.

Field Day also features a “Get on the Air” station, where visitors without radio licenses can try operating a station and talking to other stations thousands of miles away.

Governor Kay Ivey has declared June 19-25 as “Amateur Radio Week” in Alabama.
