City Councilwoman Julie Beard releases statement on mass shooting
Montgomery District 2 City Councilor Julie Beard is speaking out following a mass shooting where 9 people were shot and 4 others were injured.
The shooting took place near North Pass Road and Alabama River Parkway, which is part of Councilwoman Beard’s statement.
The statement provided to Action 8 News is as follows:
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the recent surge in senseless acts of violence that have plagued our beloved city and communities. This wave of criminality is not just an assault on the peace and safety of our neighborhoods, but an affront to the very essence of our community values.
This morning at 1:45 AM, the Montgomery Police department responded to calls of thirteen(13) people were shot, including three juveniles, off North Pass road and River Parkway according to multiple news sources.
Let me be clear: these acts of violence are intolerable and unacceptable. They are perpetrated by individuals who have no regard for human life, no respect for the law, and no consideration for the suffering they inflict on innocent families and communities. The residents of Montgomery deserve better.
We deserve to live in a city where our children can play in parks without fear, where businesses can thrive without the threat of vandalism, and where every person can walk the streets with a sense of safety and security.
We will not stand by and watch our city be torn apart by the reckless actions of a few. This violence must end, and it must end now.
To those who wreak havoc on our community: know this— we are committed to using every resource at our disposal to bring you to justice and restore peace to our streets. I want the people of Montgomery to know that I hear you, and I am just outraged and broken hearted as you are. I say this: stay strong, stay united, and stay vigilant. We must come together, now more than ever, to support one another and reclaim our city from the grip of fear and violence. We will not let these senseless acts define us. Together, we will rise above, rebuild, and renew our commitment to making Montgomery a beacon of safety and prosperity for all.
When our city residents start to lose faith in our government and city leaders, a change must happen immediately. Today, I want to call on all my council colleagues and those in City Hall to have an emergency meeting on our next steps as we have open and honest dialogue about the crime that is plaguing our city. We cannot delay any longer or wait on the sidelines. We must aggressively attack to restore trust in our government.
I urge everyone to report any suspicious activities to the authorities and to support our law enforcement as they work tirelessly to protect us. We are all in this together, and together, we will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger than ever.”
No word on any suspects at this time.
