Lachavious Simmons hosts free football camp in Selma
Current Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Lachavious Simmons grew up in Selma. He said he always dreamed of playing in the NFL and to come back and host a football camp. Now that second dream is coming true.
Simmons is partnering with the City of Selma to host his first ever free youth football camp Saturday. He said he hopes to encourage this kids in his hometown.
“Just be inspired that they can do anything that they can put their minds to,” he said. “Because that was one of the things that pretty much took me above and beyond is: I always had the mindset that I was gonna be in the NFL. So doing this camp, I hope it inspires someone or touches someone and also just gives them the inspiration that they can make it to the next level.”
Simmons said attending former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson’s camp as a child helped him believe in himself.
“His camp did it for me. So I want to do the same for someone else.”
Tomorrow, the camp runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Bloch Park, inside Memorial Stadium. Kids from ages 5 to 16 are welcome.
