Derrick Ansley hosts second annual football camp

Derrick Ainsley hosted his second annual football camp on Saturday and the Tallassee community together to enjoy. Ansley, the former Tallassee standout and current Green Bay Packers passing coordinator, hosted his Driven Athletes Free Youth Football Camp on Saturday.

The event drew a ton of kids ages 5 to 14 out to the field. Families and other Tallassee residents also enjoyed the day. They watched as area football coaches led kids through drills.

“It was a collaborative effort,” Ainsley said. “The whole community came out and we got everybody connected and we got a bunch of kids out here that were excited to be here and they worked extremely hard, I’m proud of those guys.”

The campers also got to hear from NFL players. Defensive back Justin Coleman and linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper talked to the kids about the hard work and discipline it takes to succeed.

“We had Justin Coleman here, who plays in the NFL,” Ansley said about the 10-year tenured Super Bowl Champ. “He spoke to the group and he told his story. And when he got done, one of the kids said, ‘Who was the hardest receiver you had to guard?’ And he said Davante Adams. So I thought that was pretty clever for an 8-year-old to ask an NFL cornerback that.”

The camp closed with a bang, featuring the fastest camper contest among different age groups.

Ansley said he enjoyed seeing all the smiles on kids’ faces. He hopes to run the camp again next year.
