East Montgomery Angels Headed to Dixie Softball World Series

The 10U East Montgomery Angels had to play till midnight to lock down a World Series bid. But the softball players persevered to win the Alabama fastpitch state championship.

“It felt amazing,” East Montgomery Angels first baseman Timaya Robinson said. “I was really happy and glad that we get to be in the championships.”

Now Robinson and her teammates are headed to the 2024 Dixie Softball World Series.

Robinson said the East Montgomery Angels will win. Carlie Morris, who plays both shortstop and pitcher, said they have a 75% chance of winning the tournament in Monroe, Louisiana.

“I’m excited,” Morris said, “and a little bit nervous because there’s going to be a lot of people there.”

When asked what she’s looking forward to most about the Dixie World Series, pitcher and outfielder Addisyn Neal said, “Playing all the games and winning.”

Although it’s not all about victory.

East Montgomery Angels head coach Matt Morris said that it’s many of the players’ first year playing.

“So it’s a good accomplishment for a lot of them to develop the love of the game and to continue on in years going forward,” he said.  “We want to represent the state of Alabama the best that we can. We want to go in and win, of course, but we want to have fun, too. It’s going to be a memory that I think will last a lifetime for these girls. And there’s a lot of girls who never get this far so it’s gonna be a great experience for them all-the-way around.”

The Angels will play in Louisiana from July 26 to 31.
