Man shot by officers at Walmart in Selma
A man described by investigators as mentally ill was shot by officers after they say he pointed a gun at them at the Selma Walmart.
Chief Deputy John Hatfield of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office told Action 8 News that officers had been called early Monday morning to the man’s house because he had threatened to hurt people.
Hatfield said that at about 4AM Monday, the man was seen coming out of the Walmart with a gun in his hand. When Hatfield said that the man pointed the gun at officers, he said a Selma police officer and a Dallas County Sheriff’s deputy shot him in the leg.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. His name hasn’t been released.
The State Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the case, which is standard when an officer is involved in a shooting.
