Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for 2019 deadly shooting
A Montgomery County judge has sentenced a man who pleaded guilty in a 2019 fatal shooting outside of a McDonald’s.
Montgomery Country District Attorney Daryl Bailey says Judge James Anderson sentenced 25-year-old Henry Wallace to 20 years in prison for the reckless murder of 20-year-old Ty’Riq Moon.
DA Bailey said on September 5, Wallace, who was 20 years old at the time, and Moon got into a verbal altercation with a group of people gathered outside of the restaurant on Madison Avenue. The two men returned to Wallace’s car to receive firearms, after which authorities say Wallace began shooting at the unarmed patrons.
Moon was struck in the head and killed when he stepped into the line of fire. DA Bailey said the entire incident was caught on video surveillance footage.
“These senseless, reckless murders have become far too common in our community,” said District Attorney Daryl Bailey. “Week after week, we hear about a young person who pointlessly threw their future away because they felt the only way to settle a conflict was to resort to gun violence. They never stopped to think of the life-altering consequences of pulling the trigger. They never say, ‘I‘m going to let this go and walk away.’ This mentality has to change, and it must start at home. Parents need to parent and become more vigilant about confronting the issue of gun violence. Know what your kids are doing and who they are talking to on social media. Know who they are hanging out with and where they are going. Stay in their business. Because it’s too late when you are visiting them in prison – or a cemetery.”
