Behind the Biscuits: Cole Wilcox
Behind the Biscuits
Biscuits pitcher Cole Wilcox began playing baseball at a young age like most players in the minor league have, but at the age of 15 Wilcox made a decision regarding his college years choosing to play baseball for the University of Georgia.
“I grew up a Georgia fan, I’m right on the boader, right on the Tennessee border. So I started going to games in like 2005, grew up on the campus and knew it. That was the first offer I got,” says Wilcox.
Wilcox a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee has the opportunity to do what some players might not ever, and that’s playing professional baseball in his hometown. With the Biscuits being a part of the Southern League Wilcox has the chance to play in Chattanooga when the face the Lookouts on the road.
“There’s a lot of people that I haven’t seen in a long time that come out and watch me throw. Really supportive, I’m honestly, both years now I’ve been surprised about how many people show up and how many people are supporting you, so it’s really cool to see all them come out. It gives you a little bit of an adrenaline boost too for sure,” says Wilcox.
And when he’s home, but not playing baseball, Wilcox still finds a way to be involved in the game. Wilcox is a part of an Organization near his hometown called “Peak Kinetic Performance” which is where he helps train other players.
“We do all ages, I mostly work with high school and college guys, it’s called peak kinetic performance in Chattanooga and yeah we have a gym, we have the baseball side and we’ve had a lot of good athletes come through there and it’s pretty fun working with them and seeing them be successful,” says Wilcox.
And while several athletes have superstitions, Wilcox does not. According to him he just like to be ready to go when his number is called.
“I try to eliminate any of them that I have because last year I feel like I was thinking too much about different stuff and I felt like I had to do the same routine every time and you think about when you’re younger when I go play summer ball and I probably eat Bojangles and drink a mountain dew and throw seven innings so you don’t need all the superstition just be ready to go,” says Wilcox.
Wilcox is listed as number eleven on the Rays Prospect List.
