Stolen car recovered after two Montgomery men were arrested in Mobile County

Stolen Car SuspectsTwo Montgomery men have been arrested in Mobile County for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and weapons.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch tells Action 8 News that deputies conducted a traffic stop Wednesday on I-10 near the Alabama Welcome Center.

As a deputy was approaching the vehicle, Burch said the driver appeared to be attempting to flee while the passenger was reaching towards the floorboard.

With the assistance of additional deputies, the driver, 28-year-old Lemarco Burkett and the passenger, 19-year-old Wilvontae Tallie was taken into custody.

Burch said Burkett and Tallie were in a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro reported stolen in Texas. Officials say on the floorboard to he vehicle was a short-barreled AR-15 loaded with the safety off.

“This traffic stop could have been a very dangerous situation because the AR-15 was loaded with the safety off and ready to use,” says Sheriff Burch. “Our deputies did a great job on this traffic stop. We recovered a stolen vehicle, arrested two people who most likely stole it, seized an illegal AR-15 and most importantly, no one was hurt during the process”.

Burkett is charged with receiving stolen property first degree and possession of a firearm. Tallie is charged with possession of a firearm.
