More controversy is brewing about the electronic gaming machines and businesses operating in Selma.

Wal Bingopayout0724 Fox PkgNow two Selma women say a bingo hall is refusing to pay them after winning.

Both women took pictures of their wins with their phones.

One says she hit a jackpot of over $2 million dollars — and the other says she won over $4 million.

Selma attorney Faya Rose Toure says the practice of not paying out is nothing new.

She actually took a similar case all the way to the Alabama Supreme Court.

Wal Bingopayout0724 Fox Pkg2“The case was Tony Samuel v. Frontier Bingo. A case coming out of Greene County, where one of our clients won $30,000 dollars and Frontier refused to pay. Hank and I had a jury trial and awarded him a half million dollars for the fraud. Took the case all the way to the Alabama Supreme Court. And they ruled against us.” said Toure.

“Basically they were saying, if you go into an establishment of electronic bingo that is illegal, they’re not obligated to pay you.”

The management at Selma Bingo declined to speak with Action 8 News about the matter.

The Alabama Attorney General’s Office has been contacted concerning the legality of the electronic gaming machines.
