Selma residents want an end to sporadic garbage pickup

The city of Selma has had an ongoing problem with garbage pick-up — and residents are getting fed up with the situation — and they want city leaders to fix it.

Garbage cans all over the city are full and overflowing — due to sporadic garbage pick-up.

Waka Selmagarbage0730 PkgThe problem has been going on for several months — residents say it’s time for the city to step up — and do something to fix the problem.

Martin Environmental Services out of Dothan — is the company that provides garbage service.

“I’ve called the 1-800 numbers. I’ve called the local office, I’ve gone to visit the local office, several complaints and nothing has been done,” said Standrele Green.

“They just keep saying that, we have a truck down. A truck down should not stop you from servicing a whole city.”

City officials are working on two possible solutions to fix the problem.

However they say both will result in higher garbage fees for residents.
